About Doug Watkins
My Career Matches my Personality
Hi. I’m Doug Watkins, Mechanical Engineer. From as early as I can remember, I was fascinated with the internal mechanism of what makes things work. If it was broken, then I was going to disassemble it down to every part. If it was not broken, then I might be in a bit of trouble if I could not get it back together. I just could not shake the question, “How does the toaster know when to pop up?” Fascinating…to me.
What is the first thing you do with your first used car…take it apart of course. The mistakes made along the way built my knowledge moving forward. That insatiable desire to learn never stops.
The desire to learn moved into the theoretical. Mechanical Engineering was the most logical and emotional choice for higher learning. Now the toaster made sense. Every part was designed to perform a function as simply and economically as possible. The study of mechanical engineering gave me the theoretical knowledge I craved to match my kinetic background. I could not imagine learning anything else.
It would be nice to say, “I have arrived”, but I continue to learn. There is always more knowledge to gain, new development tools to master, and people to meet. Some of the most profound knowledge I have gained comes from the relationships I have made along the way. What a joy it is learn the about the science of the world that God has created.
